HBK Engineering, LLC is a fully licensed, professional engineering design firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with a staff approaching 700 individuals. HBK provides civil, environmental, structural, electrical, subsurface utility, construction support services and permitting facilitation. In July 2020, HBK Engineering was acquired by Quanta Services. Quanta Services provides infrastructure services for electric power, pipeline, and communications industries and employees over 50,000 people. Quanta’s focus on the utility industry and HBK’s focus on constructability in our designs has made our integration into the Quanta family of companies seamless.

About this Role

HBK Engineering has career opportunities for successful Power Up graduates interested in working within the utility industry. We offer a wide array of entry-level positions within our organization. We are currently hiring for an Associate Designer.

What You'll Do

  • Produce detailed design and construction documents in AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, and client EAM platforms.
  • Model utility-pole loading and develop material/equipment purchase requests.
  • Analyze topo surveys, utility atlases, field sketches, client records, and vendor datasheets to inform design decisions.
  • Communicate technical findings to project management, engineering leadership, and construction partners.
  • Support risk management by flagging design or constructability concerns early.
  • Conduct field walk-downs (< 25 % travel) with internal staff, clients, and authorities.
  • Manage your own schedule to hit project milestones while juggling multiple assignments.

What You'll Bring

  • 0-2 years' experience or related associate degree/certificates in CADD or a technical field.
  • Proficiency in 2-D CADD (AutoCAD or similar) and solid grasp of Office 365 and remote-communication tools.
  • Ability to ramp up quickly on in-process projects and work independently or within interdisciplinary teams.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills and the persistence to drive tasks to completion.
  • Adaptability in a fast-moving, collaborative environment.

  • Pay range: $19.00 to $23.00 hourly, commensurate with experience.
    The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location.
