Structural Designer

HBK Engineering, LLC is a fully licensed, professional engineering design firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with a staff approaching 700 individuals. A Structural Designer at HBK Organization is a position responsible for designing engineering systems for overhead and subsurface utility projects with increased independence and leadership responsibilities. This role requires using engineering judgment and problem-solving skills to independently address unique and complex electrical, structural, civil, and construction-related challenges with minimal oversight. The position includes coaching and mentoring entry-level staff while owning all phases of the design lifecycle from initiation through construction completion and project closeout.

• Produce detailed structural and geotechnical design drawings, including concrete and steel framing, foundation plans, and details for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
• Apply AutoCAD expertise to develop and manage design elements in coordination with utility construction plans, ensuring adherence to department CAD standards.
• Revise plans based on redlines and prepare accurate as-built drawings.
• Collaborate with engineers and designers across disciplines to resolve design issues and support project development.
• Maintain organized project electronic files and archives.
• Provide guidance on CAD techniques and support skill development within the team.
• Continuously develop expertise in approved CAD applications.

Qualifications:

• An Associate’s degree or related technical certificate
• 5+ years structural detailing and/or drafting experience

Essential skills:

• Strong communication skills
• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software

Preferred skills:

• Strong working knowledge of MicroStation
• Construction experience
• Utilities experience
• Detailing experience with concrete, reinforced concrete, wood, masonry, and structural steel

• Pay range: $28.00 per hour to $50 per hour, commensurate with experience.
  • The expected compensation range for this position is displayed in compliance with all local/state regulations. The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and the potential to participate in our discretionary annual incentive bonus program.
