About this Role

Irby Construction Company, a Quanta Services Company, is seeking an experienced Estimator with a strong background in Heavy Transmission and Powerline Projects to join our team based in Richland, Mississippi.

 

This role plays a key part in supporting high-impact projects across the power utility sector and will require extensive travel (50%+) to regional field offices throughout Alabama, Georgia, Arkansas, and Louisiana.

 

The ideal candidate will bring prior experience working for a general contractor in the power utility construction industry, with a focus on detailed cost estimating and project planning for transmission line work. You will collaborate with operations and engineering teams to produce accurate and competitive estimates that contribute to successful project delivery.

 

Your technical expertise, industry knowledge, and attention to detail will help reinforce Irby Construction’s reputation for excellence and reliability in executing complex powerline projects.

What You'll Do

  • Analyze and interpret project plans, specifications, and drawings specific to heavy transmission and powerline projects.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor needs for complex projects.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and operations teams to integrate technical insights into comprehensive bid proposals.
  • Conduct risk assessments, apply value-engineering techniques, and identify cost-saving opportunities to optimize project estimates.
  • Stay current on industry trends, pricing, and best practices within the powerline sector while tracking changes in labor and material costs.
  • Engage with vendors and subcontractors to obtain quotes, validate estimates, and resolve technical or cost discrepancies.
  • Support the end-to-end bidding process, from initial inquiries and prequalification through final submission, ensuring compliance with IRBY’s quality and safety standards.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Construction Science/Management, Engineering, or equivalent field (preferred)
  • Project Management experience in General Contracting with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high quality and adhering to rigorous safety standards.
  • Expertise in project planning, cost management, resource allocation, and scheduling with a results-oriented approach.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills to effectively manage diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of construction safety protocols and compliance, with a track record of successfully implementing preventative safety measures.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, Cost Control estimating software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, capable of managing unexpected challenges while keeping projects on track.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as needed to support project activities.
