About this Role

A Project Manager at HBK Engineering is a position that leads project teams consisting of engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in the design, modification, analysis, and constructability of new and existing utility systems. This executive-level role involves working on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction-related issues while coordinating utility design and relocation efforts on behalf of utility infrastructure owners. The position requires preparing, reviewing, and approving proposals, contracts, and cost estimates while serving as team lead in coordinating detailed design phases for all aspects of utility engineering work.

What You'll Do

  • Primary point of contact with our regional client and/or subcontractors
  • Direct project supervision and project work flow.
  • Maintain proper levels of quality control.
  • Meet all project schedules.
  • Efficient utilization of resources.
  • Communicate project status to management and to the client, both internal and external
  • Develop project specifications and implement practices which will achieve defined objectives to the satisfaction of the client and of management.
  • Additional responsibilities and/or duties as assigned.
  • Maintain working knowledge of utility company policy and procedures in order to communicate effectively with various professional staffs from client companies.
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Day to day supervision of back office engineering operation, including but not limited to office resource management
  • Direct the local staff and work product of planning and/or administrative teams

What You'll Bring

  • 10+ years of progressive professional experience, with at least 5 years in a relevant project or engineering leadership role specifically within the utility and/or telecom sectors.
  • Lead and mentor engineering design teams, guiding projects through all phases, from initial concept to final implementation.
  • Oversee utility design and coordination efforts, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards.
  • Manage project financials, including budget control, resource allocation, and contract negotiation.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for area agencies, municipalities, and governing jurisdictions, ensuring smooth project approvals and coordination.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules, ensuring timely delivery within tight deadlines.
  • Apply strong problem-solving and troubleshooting expertise to overcome project challenges effectively.
  • Prepare and deliver exceptional written, verbal, and presentation materials for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while also demonstrating the ability to work independently on critical tasks.
  • Bachelor's Degree required; a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is strongly preferred. Candidates with degrees in related fields will also be considered.
  • Extensive background in electrical utility and/or telecom design and coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and mentoring direct reports and engineering design teams.
  • Proficiency in advanced Project Management Software and the full Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Proven expertise in contract negotiation and management, as well as financial management and budget control.
  • Strong familiarity with area agencies, municipalities, and governing jurisdictions.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
  • Adept at problem-solving, troubleshooting, and working effectively under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CAPM or PMP certification

Compensation Range

The anticipated compensation for this position is USD $90,000.00/Yr. - depending on experience and qualifications.
