Project Accountant
Onsite: M–F, 8AM–5PM

The Project Accountant is responsible for specialized project accounting functions and internal controls in accordance with company policies, accounting standards, and contractual requirements. This role partners closely with Project Management and Project Controls to manage project financials, including budgets, invoices, payables, receivables, and general ledger activity, while providing accurate financial insight throughout the project lifecycle.
Review, analyze, and monitor project financial data to ensure accuracy and compliance
Audit compliance with contractual requirements, including invoicing formats, reporting standards, revenue recognition, and cash flow projections
Apply a strong understanding of invoicing and revenue recognition under ASC 606
Advise management on project financial performance and risks
Review project activity related to accounting and contractual obligations
Maintain accurate contract documentation, including fee structures, budgets, and contract setup
Collaborate with project and section personnel to provide timely financial data and resolve accounting issues
Support multiple Project Managers and project teams with daily project accounting inquiries
Prepare detailed financial analysis and reporting on project status within established project control systems
Develop and analyze reporting related to project baselines, cost control, cost estimates, earned value management (EVM), forecasts, variance analysis, and schedules
Support technical project management activities and project reviews
Serve as a centralized point of contact for internal and external financial stakeholders
Partner with technical staff and project leadership to provide financial insights that support key decisions related to scope, schedule, and budget
Prepare, validate, and maintain cost rates, baseline budgets, work packages, cost estimates, and monthly variance reports
Utilize earned value management and other project control techniques to evaluate planned versus actual performance
Analyze project schedules to ensure logical sequencing, assess critical paths, and perform “what-if” scenario analysis
Ensure compliance with internal standards, policies, and procedures
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Minimum of 4 years of experience in an Accounting or Finance role
Experience working within an ERP system
Experience in the construction industry
Experience using JD Edwards
3+ years of project accounting experience
Strong knowledge of GAAP and SOX compliance requirements
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office
High level of confidentiality and professionalism
Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to communicate effectively at all organizational levels
Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Self-starter who can work independently while supporting team objectives
