HBK Engineering, LLC is a fully licensed, professional engineering design firm headquartered in Chicago, IL with a staff approaching 700 individuals. A Project Manager at HBK Engineering leads and directs multidisciplinary teams in the design, analysis, and constructability of utility systems, with a specific focus on overseeing projects utilizing Ameren Heavy Underground standards. Based primarily out of the Kansas City or St. Louis offices, this executive-level role involves identifying project risks, developing mitigation strategies, and solving complex engineering and construction issues. The position requires comprehensive oversight of multiple programs, fostering high-level client relationships, and the strategic mentorship and evaluation of direct reports and organizational resources.
Lead a project team consisting of engineers, designers, and field personnel involved in the design, modification, analysis, and constructability of new and existing utility systems.
Work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of engineering and construction-related issues.
Coordinate utility design and relocation efforts on behalf of utility infrastructure owners.
Oversee projects specifically utilizing Ameren Heavy Underground standards, practices, and scopes of work.
Prepare, review, and/or approve proposals, contracts, or cost estimates.
Act as a team lead in the coordination of detailed design phases for all aspects of utility engineering work.
Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner while meeting client requirements.
Perform independent reviews of work performed by the project team.
Lead efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget.
Negotiate revisions, changes, and additions to contractual agreements with sub-consultants and clients.
Adhere to Safety initiatives as needed by the organization, including specific safety precautions for manhole inventory and fielding practices.
Assist in the management, development, mentorship, and evaluation of resources within the organization.
Train project coordinators and senior project coordinators.
Travel as needed; please note that the Kansas City and St. Louis offices are the preferred locations for this role. Candidates located outside of these areas will require a significant amount of additional travel.
Control expenditures to meet budget allocations.
Create proposals in a coordinated effort with and under the direction of project team leadership, contractors, and other key team members.
Lead project teams through the completion of project financial accruals and forecasts.
Identify and resolve project/program budget, forecast, and authorization concerns early to meet required project metrics.
Monitor and resolve program financial risks and opportunities; provide detailed analysis of variances to budget, quarterly plans, and month-over-month variance analysis.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Project Management Software.
Familiarity with AutoCAD Map3D is highly preferred.
Knowledge of manhole inventory fielding practices and associated safety protocols.
Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
Experience in leading and mentoring direct reports in a team environment.
