About this Role

A Professional Licensed Surveyor I at HBK Engineering is a position that combines advanced technical surveying expertise with professional licensure and leadership responsibilities. This role involves conducting comprehensive surveys to ascertain locations of natural features and man-made structures while serving as the surveyor responsibly in-charge of various surveys statewide. The position requires coordinating survey crew activities, providing training and support for field and office personnel, and developing standards and procedures for survey-related issues while maintaining professional licensure standards.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct surveys to ascertain locations of natural features and man-made structures on the surface and underground
  • Adjust and operate surveying instruments such as Total Station and GPS survey equipment with professional precision
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data using notes, drawings, and sketches
  • Search for section corners, property irons, and survey points to establish accurate reference systems
  • Position and hold vertical rods or targets for Total Station operators to measure angles, distances, and elevations
  • Lay out grids and determine horizontal and vertical controls for project accuracy
  • Compare survey computations with applicable standards to determine adequacy of data
  • Lay out and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation for project reference
  • Perform duties as surveyor responsibly in-charge of various surveys statewide, including geodetic/project control, mapping, and boundary surveys
  • Coordinate survey crew activities, monitor survey progress, analyze processing and adjustment results, and develop and file surveys with the county
  • Provide survey training and support for statewide field and office personnel
  • Develop and update training and procedure manuals for surveying operations
  • Assist in developing standards and procedures for survey-related issues
  • Assist in researching, determining needs, and writing specifications for procurement of survey instruments
  • Develop and maintain liaison with project managers' offices, region offices, design sections, and others to provide training and instruction in field survey procedures
  • Work directly with survey crews to ensure proper and efficient use of automated survey equipment
  • Research and develop new survey procedures for utilization of automated survey equipment
  • Keep abreast with advances in survey technology and act as source of information to field personnel.

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license in GA required
  • 5+ years of surveying experience
  • E.I.T./S.I.T. Certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license (CDL not required)
  • Excellent people management skills for leading survey crews and training personnel
  • Professional communication skills for client interactions and inter-departmental liaison
  • Flexibility to work effectively in both office and field environments
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Total Station, and GPS equipment operations
  • Self-motivated and proactive attitude with good interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate with diverse teams, clients, and stakeholders
  • Physical capability to move about on construction work sites, public streets, and parkways
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to sit, kneel, and squat on a daily basis with minimal frequency of kneeling and squatting
  • Hand-eye coordination necessary to operate surveying equipment and take measurements
  • Ability to perform outdoor standing and/or walking work every day.
