About this Role

HBK Engineering is seeking a Senior Field Staff Manager, to lead surveying operations on fast-paced, design-build datacenter projects. This role is ideal for a high-performing survey professional who excels in field leadership, construction calculations, and quality-driven execution.

 

As a Senior Field Staff Manager, you will oversee multiple survey crews and CAD technicians, ensuring precise layout, as-built documentation, and seamless coordination with construction and engineering teams. You will be the on-site authority for survey control, field verification, and digital workflows that support complex civil construction. Work Location Arizona

What You'll Do

  • Manage all land surveying activities for heavy civil construction on active datacenter projects
  • Lead, schedule, and mentor multiple field survey crews and construction CAD technicians
  • Perform and oversee construction layout, staking, and as-built documentation with a high degree of precision
  • Execute and review construction calculations, coordinate geometry, and cross-check plans for accuracy and constructability
  • Interpret civil, structural, and utility plans and communicate requirements clearly to field teams
  • Maintain survey control networks, verify field conditions, and ensure alignment with design intent
  • Coordinate closely with project managers, engineers, and contractors in a fast-moving design-build environment
  • Ensure that quality control processes for survey deliverables and field data are being adhered to.
  • Utilize Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, and Microsoft tools to manage data, calculations, and reporting
  • Adapt quickly to design changes, field adjustments, and evolving project requirements

What You'll Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office
  • Deep experience with construction staking, layout, and as-built surveys for heavy civil projects
  • Demonstrated ability to perform and verify construction calculations, coordinate geometry, and plan interpretation
  • Proven leadership experience managing multiple survey crews and CAD support staff
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, design-build environment with frequent changes
  • Strong organizational skills and a commitment to quality and accuracy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license or ability to pursue licensure
  • Experience supporting datacenter construction
  • Familiarity with high-precision layout, machine control workflows, or advanced survey technologies
