We are seeking an experienced and field-proven Project Field Engineer to support and lead engineering activities on high-voltage substation construction projects. The ideal candidate will have 5–7 years of relevant field experience and the demonstrated ability to independently manage technical field issues, direct junior engineers, and interface with project management and home office engineering teams. This is a full-time, site-based role performed in rotational shifts. The Project Field Engineer builds upon foundational field engineering skills to serve in a technical leadership capacity, with a strong emphasis on safety culture, commissioning oversight, and project controls engagement.

What You'll Do

The Project Field Engineer will:

  • Model and enforce a safety-first culture on site; lead pre-task planning sessions, conduct field safety observations, and mentor junior Field Engineers in EEWP procedures and OSHA compliance.
  • Serve as Lead Field Engineer on assigned projects, directing field engineering activities and coordinating workflow among junior Field Engineers and technicians.
  • Work on site full time in rotational shifts, maintaining engineering coverage across all active construction phases.
  • Act as primary technical liaison on site, providing guidance to project leadership, construction crews, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure project adherence to engineering and design specifications, industry standards, and construction regulations.
  • Lead resolution of construction issues, deviations from plans, and unforeseen field challenges; coordinate with home office engineering teams when required.
  • Lead pre-energization testing walkthroughs, oversee commissioning punch-list resolution, and review and approve commissioning test documentation before milestone sign-off.
  • Participate in constructability reviews during design phases, providing field perspective on installation sequencing, equipment access, and execution risk.
  • Manage field submittals, RFIs, and documentation using Procore or equivalent project management software; generate field reports and support project controls with accurate field data.
  • Identify and communicate field-driven cost and schedule impacts to Project Manager; support as-built quantity tracking and change documentation.
  • Maintain accurate field markups and project documentation.
  • Support plan review and approvals with applicable authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

  • 5–7 years of relevant field experience in the construction of large high-voltage electrical infrastructure.
  • Strong technical background in the installation of electrical equipment and associated systems, with in-depth working knowledge of either substation or transmission construction drawings and specifications — including physical layout drawings, grounding plans, equipment arrangement drawings, one-line and three-line diagrams, civil/structural details, and QC documentation.
  • Experience with high, medium, and low voltage installations, grounding, and substation or transmission design.
  • Familiarity with protection and control schematics, relay panel arrangements, and SCADA/RTU integration sufficient to validate field installations.
  • Working knowledge of NESC, IEEE substation standards (C2, 80, 693), OSHA 1910.269, and customer-specific construction specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct field engineering activities and mentor entry-level Field Engineers.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with project teams, clients, and regulatory entities.
  • OSHA 30 required; OSHA 10 minimum.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Willingness to work rotational shifts and extended schedules in a field environment.
  • Proficiency in Procore or equivalent project management software; ability to generate field reports, manage RFI and submittal logs, and support project controls.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license not required.

Travel Requirements:

      • Role will require travel as necessary to achieve job responsibilities, up to 100% of the time.

What You'll Get

  • Competitive salary and bonus structure.
  • Comprehensive health and retirement benefits.
  • Per diem and travel support for site-based assignments.
  • Professional development opportunities and pathways toward senior leadership roles.
