About this Role

Quanta Power Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and results-driven Lead Piping Estimator to lead the preparation, coordination, and delivery of piping construction estimates for power generation, utility, industrial, renewable energy, and infrastructure projects. This role is responsible for developing accurate and competitive cost estimates, mentoring estimating team members, supporting business development efforts, and collaborating with operations teams to ensure successful project execution.

 

The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in piping systems with exceptional analytical, leadership, and communication skills.

 

What You'll Do

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of detailed piping estimates for EPC, maintenance, turnaround, and construction projects.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, bid documents, and scopes of work to determine labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and indirect costs.
  • Prepare conceptual, budgetary, and bid-level estimates with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Develop quantity takeoffs for process piping, utility piping, underground piping, and related mechanical systems.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and incorporate vendor and subcontractor quotations into estimates.
  • Identify project risks, opportunities, and value-engineering alternatives.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, operations, and business development teams during the estimating process.
  • Lead bid reviews and present estimate assumptions, pricing strategies, and risk assessments to senior leadership.
  • Maintain and improve estimating databases, labor productivity factors, and historical cost records.
  • Mentor and support junior estimators while promoting estimating best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Assist with client meetings, proposal development, and pre-award negotiations as needed.

 

What You'll Bring

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field; equivalent industry experience may be considered.
  • 8+ years of estimating experience in industrial, power generation, utility, energy, or heavy construction environments.
  • 3+ years of experience leading complex piping estimates or estimating teams.
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, fabrication, installation methods, welding processes, and construction execution.
  • Proficiency with estimating software and construction cost databases.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and related estimating tools.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting power delivery, substation, generation, renewable energy, or industrial construction projects.
  • Knowledge of EPC project execution and contract delivery methods.
  • Professional certifications such as CPE, CCP, PMP, or related industry credentials.
