Job Summary:

We are currently seeking an experienced Project Cost Analyst to join our Provo team! The Project Cost Analyst supports the financial and cost-control functions of construction projects, working under the direction of the Project Controller and/or Project Manager. This role focuses on accurate cost tracking, data entry, reporting, and forecast support to help maintain budgetary control and project efficiency. The Project Cost Analyst assists in monitoring labor, material, equipment, and subcontract costs, and collaborates with Project Controllers, Project Managers, Site Supervisors, and Finance teams to ensure timely, accurate financial data and reporting.

What You'll Do

 

Key Responsibilities:

Cost Tracking & Data Entry

  • Monitor and record actual project costs, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor invoices, ensuring accuracy and proper coding.
  • Enter and maintain cost data in Ecosys and other financial management systems in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Reconcile cost reports against budgets and flag discrepancies for review by the Project Controller.
  • Support weekly cost verification and financial postings.
  • Budget & Forecast Support
  • Assist in maintaining project budgets and cost breakdowns under the direction of the Project Controller or Project Manager.
  • Support Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) setup and updates in coordination with the project team.
  • Help compile cost-to-complete estimates and monthly forecast updates.
  • Track production and earned value metrics to support forecasting accuracy.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare routine cost reports, variance summaries, and production tracking reports for review by project leadership.
  • Provide basic trend analysis comparing actual costs to budgeted amounts.
  • Support development of dashboards and reports used to communicate project performance.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly reporting on cost and schedule performance.

Invoice & Contract Support

  • Review subcontractor and vendor invoices for accuracy, coding, and compliance with contract terms.
  • Assist in tracking change orders and their financial impact.
  • Support monitoring of project cash flow, invoicing, and collections.
  • Compliance & Audit Support
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with company financial policies, internal controls, and accounting standards.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing and organizing requested cost documentation.
  • Help monitor Accounts Receivable Aging Reports and retainage tracking.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with the Project Controller, Project Manager, Site Supervisors, and Finance/Procurement teams to ensure accurate data collection.
  • Participate in job review meetings, providing cost data and supporting analysis as needed.
  • Support RFQ and RFI processes by compiling financial data for project feasibility review.

What You'll Bring

 

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Construction Management, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • 1-3 years of experience in cost analysis, project accounting, construction finance, or a related support role.
  • Familiarity with earned value management (EVM) and project cost tracking principles preferred.
  • Working knowledge of construction accounting principles and budgeting concepts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP); exposure to JDE, SAP, EcoSys, or similar ERP/financial systems a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with field operations and finance/accounting teams.
  • Experience with high-voltage transmission & distribution construction projects is a plus.
