About this Role

Quanta Power Solutions is seeking a highly experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to serve as a technical authority and engineering leader responsible for electrical system design, analysis, and execution across power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems (BESS), data centers, substations, transmission, and industrial infrastructure projects. This role provides strategic technical direction, ensures engineering excellence, and supports the delivery of complex EPC projects from conceptual development through commissioning and operational turnover.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in industrial and utility electrical systems, strong leadership capabilities, and a proven ability to guide multidisciplinary engineering teams while influencing technical standards and project execution strategies.

What You'll Do

Technical Leadership & Engineering Strategy

  • Serve as the principal electrical engineering subject matter expert for Quanta Power Solutions.
  • Establish electrical engineering standards, design methodologies, and best practices across projects and disciplines.
  • Provide technical oversight and approval for complex electrical designs and system studies.
  • Support business development efforts, proposal development, and client technical presentations.
  • Evaluate new technologies and industry advancements to improve system performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Provide engineering governance for electrical design consistency across all projects.

Electrical System Design & Analysis

  • Lead the design and evaluation of electrical systems for:
    • Power generation facilities (simple cycle and combined cycle)
    • Renewable energy systems
    • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
    • Data centers and mission-critical facilities
    • Substations and transmission interconnections
    • Industrial and utility infrastructure systems
      Oversee development and review of:
    • Single-line and three-line diagrams
    • Protection and coordination studies
    • Load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and grounding studies
    • Electrical equipment specifications and data sheets
    • Cable schedules and distribution designs
    • Motor control and switchgear systems
    • Material take-offs (MTOs) and construction packages
      Ensure compliance with NEC, IEEE, NESC, and applicable industry standards.
      • Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, maintainability, and operational performance requirements.

Project Execution & EPC Delivery

  • Provide technical leadership across all project phases: conceptual design, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, startup, and commissioning.
  • Review and approve key electrical deliverables, vendor drawings, and technical submittals.
  • Support project planning, estimating, risk management, and execution strategies.
  • Provide input on staffing, workload distribution, and engineering resource planning.
  • Participate in executive-level project reviews and client coordination meetings.

Multidisciplinary Coordination

  • Coordinate electrical engineering efforts with civil, structural, mechanical, instrumentation & controls, process, and construction teams.
  • Lead interdisciplinary design reviews and system integration workshops.
  • Resolve complex interface and system coordination issues across disciplines.
  • Ensure electrical systems are fully integrated into overall facility design and construction sequencing.

Construction & Commissioning Support

  • Provide senior technical support during construction, startup, and commissioning activities.
  • Conduct field visits, system walkdowns, and installation verification.
  • Support resolution of RFIs, technical field issues, and design conflicts.
  • Assist with energization planning, testing procedures, and system commissioning.
  • Review as-built documentation and ensure design intent is maintained through project completion.

Quality Assurance & Standards Development

  • Develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, procedures, and design guidelines.
  • Perform technical reviews and approvals of engineering deliverables.
  • Lead quality assurance and continuous improvement initiatives across engineering teams.
  • Ensure consistency and compliance with client requirements and company standards.
  • Promote engineering excellence and best practices across all projects.

Mentorship & Organizational Development

  • Mentor and develop electrical engineers and technical staff at all levels.
  • Support recruiting, onboarding, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Lead technical training and knowledge-sharing programs.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development within engineering teams.

What You'll Bring

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum 15+ years of progressive electrical engineering experience.
  • Extensive EPC experience in power generation, industrial, utility, transmission, or infrastructure projects.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large-scale electrical engineering efforts and multidisciplinary teams.

Technical Skills

  • Expert knowledge of:
    • Power systems engineering and design
    • Electrical distribution systems (MV/LV/HV)
    • Protection and control systems
    • Substation and transmission design
    • Generator and utility interconnection systems
    • Grounding, arc flash, and coordination studies
      Advanced proficiency with:
    • ETAP, SKM, or equivalent power system analysis software
    • AutoCAD
    • Revit
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
      Strong understanding of EPC workflows, constructability, and commissioning practices.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel periodically for client meetings, site visits, construction support, and commissioning activities.
  • Ability to work in active industrial and construction environments as required.
