About this Role

Northstar Energy Solutions is looking for a Skilled Laborer to support gas construction and maintenance operations, including the installation, repair, and maintenance of natural gas mains, service lines, and related equipment. This role performs hands-on field labor under the direction of crew leaders and foremen, helping ensure safe, efficient, and code-compliant execution of gas construction and maintenance activities.

 

Location: 3340 Roy Orr Blvd, Grand Prairie, TX 75050
Schedule: Monday–Friday, with on-call, overtime, and weekend availability as operational needs require

What You'll Do

  • Assist with the installation, repair, maintenance, and testing of natural gas mains, service lines, valves, and related equipment.
  • Perform excavation, trenching, backfilling, and site restoration in accordance with company and utility standards.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment used in gas construction and maintenance activities.
  • Assist with pipe fusion, joining, tie-ins, and tapping operations under the direction of qualified operators.
  • Locate, expose, and protect existing underground utilities prior to and during excavation.
  • Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment to and from job sites.
  • Set up and maintain traffic control, barricades, signage, and work zone safety measures.
  • Assist with pressure testing, purging, and leak surveys on gas piping systems.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work site at all times.
  • Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, DOT pipeline safety standards, and client-specific site requirements.
  • Report unsafe conditions, near misses, incidents, or equipment issues immediately to the crew leader or foreman.

What You'll Bring

  • 1+ years of experience in gas construction, pipeline construction, utility construction, or related fieldwork preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of natural gas distribution systems, pipe materials, and construction methods preferred.
  • Ability to safely operate hand tools and light construction equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and on uneven terrain.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to follow instructions from crew leaders and foremen.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a crew in a fast-paced field environment.
  • Basic understanding of excavation safety, trench protection, and utility locating practices preferred.
  • Willingness to work overtime, on-call shifts, and respond to emergency call-outs as needed.

 

Job Qualifications:

 

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly, and up to 75+ pounds occasionally, with or without assistance.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in confined or excavated spaces for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb in and out of trenches and excavations safely using proper protocols.
  • Comfortable working near heavy equipment, energized lines, and pressurized gas systems under proper safety controls.
  • Willingness to travel locally between job sites as assigned.
  • Valid driver's license required; ability to obtain a CDL considered a plus.

 

Educational/Certification Requirements:

 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
  • Operator Qualification (OQ) certification for applicable covered tasks preferred, or willingness to obtain within a defined timeframe.
