About this Role

NorthStar Energy Solutions is seeking a driven Technical Trainer to join our Training team. In this role, you will do more than teach skills — you will build confidence, elevate performance, and develop skilled lineworkers who represent NorthStar with pride in the field. You will deliver hands-on field and classroom instruction for apprentice and journey-level lineworkers, uphold the integrity of our training standards, and serve as a mentor who inspires trainees to grow and succeed in their craft.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct field and classroom training for apprentice and journey-level lineworkers.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain training materials and curriculum to support knowledge and skill development.
  • Identify training gaps and recommend innovative approaches — new materials, methodologies, and activities — to enhance the learning experience.
  • Evaluate trainee performance against program objectives and provide feedback to leadership.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of all training programs and stay current on industry best practices and regulations.
  • Collaborate with leadership and safety teams on the continuous improvement of training programs.
  • Serve as a mentor by encouraging and inspiring trainees and co-workers, and by contributing to a positive, respectful work environment.
  • Uphold the integrity of company training standards, curriculum, and expectations.
  • Travel as needed to support training across company job sites and locations.
  • Commit to advancing through the company's Training Specialist progression program and complete any additional required training or certifications.

What You'll Bring

  • A passion for training, with the ability to teach effectively to audiences with varying levels of expertise.
  • Strong communication, mentorship, and leadership skills.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, NESC, and other industry safety regulations.
  • Working knowledge of educational theory and industry best practices in training delivery.
  • Proficiency with computers and the ability to learn new software and training systems quickly.
  • Physical ability to work in a classroom or field setting, including standing or sitting for extended periods, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 65 lbs.
  • Stamina to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and noise.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Journey-level Lineworker certificate required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or equivalent training/instructional experience, preferred.
  • Training experience with craftworkers or safety-professional audiences, from pre-apprentice to journey-level, preferred.
  • Ability to travel as needed to support training at company job sites and locations, and to relocate if required by the assigned location or territory.

EDUCATIONAL / CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Journeyman Lineman license or certification required (certificate of completion of a formalized apprenticeship program; documentation required).
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; an equivalent combination of education and hands-on training/instructional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Certification in climbing, CPR, and First Aid required (must obtain if not already certified); OSHA 10/30-Hour certification or OSHA-authorized trainer status is a plus.

What You'll Get

As a NorthStar Energy Solutions employee, you will have access to a comprehensive range of benefits designed to support you and your family, including:

  • 401(k) plan with immediate employer matching and vesting.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with your choice of PPO, HSA, or FSA plans.
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance.
  • Employee discounts on everyday purchases, including travel, electronics, entertainment, and more.
